Ring Carving Workshop
Last week I held my first wax ring carving workshop at my lovely local pub, William the Fourth, and it was one of those evenings that reminds me exactly why I love doing this.
Sixteen brilliant and creative humans attended, some with a little experience, most with none at all. Everyone survived the sharp tools with only a couple of plasters needed! By the end of the evening, every single person had completed their ring in wax and all commented on how quickly the time went by.
A few people chose to have their rings cast into silver, which I sent off to my lovely caster. They are now back and I’ve hand-finished and polished them, ready to be worn and treasured. It’s been so lovely to see how they’ve turned out!
With the current insanity of silver prices, it was really important to me that the workshop could be enjoyed purely as a creative experience, with no obligation to commit to having a finished ring made. Creativity should feel joyful, not pressured, and I love that people could simply come along, make something beautiful with their hands, and leave with their completed wax model.
The evening was exactly what I hoped for: relaxed, fun and quietly focused. People met new faces, swapped design inspo, and were incredibly kind about the slightly… atmospheric lighting situation! The group ingeniously solved the problem of the gentle pub lighting by balancing phone torches on top of beer glasses to create makeshift craft lamps. Resourceful and stylish!
Rest assured, I will be acquiring some little spotlights before the next workshop on 5 March!
Thank you so much to everyone who came along, carved so beautifully, and made the evening such a joy. I’m really looking forward to doing it all again soon ✨
